Declan Long writes about the film NLR in his book Ghost-Haunted Land. Click on the image above to read an excerpt from the book. NLR was first shown in a two-person show with artist Aisling O’Beirn at Belfast Exposed Gallery, and in this text Declan discusses the whole exhibition, including some collaborative projects that Aisling and I produced.
In the book Where Are the People?, Ciaran Carson, one of Ireland’s most distinguished poets, responded to the exhibition and book Archive: Lisburn Road. Ciaran chose 20 of the photographs from this series and composed a text to accompany them comprising an intimate recent history of Belfast, drawing on personal recollection and observation.
Also in Where Are the People?, critic Colin Graham writes about Archive: Lisburn Road and considers how contemporary Northern Irish photographers have contributed to the understanding of Belfast as the city emerges from the years of the Troubles.
Colin Graham also contributed a text to the original book accompanying the Archive: Lisburn Road exhibition. Colin's text explores the history of the Belfast suburbs in literature and then considers what an ‘archive’ is in the context of Belfast and the imagery of the Troubles.
Colin wrote about the Lisburn Road project a third time, when it was featured in the Belfast Exposed / MAC Belfast retrospective Northern Ireland 30 Years of Photography.
